DRIES VAN NOTEN FALL 2021
PHOTOS BY CASPER SEJERSEN for DRIES VAN NOTEN via VOGUE.COM
I truly can’t put into words what this collection did to me — it moved me down to my core. IT IS SO STUNNINGLY NEXT LEVEL BEAUTIFUL and the humanity is other worldly. Shot by the un-touchable talent of Casper Sejersen, I’ve also included the film as the video clip this month. It rendered me speechless (hard to do). ENJOY!!!
PAGE TURNER : TANGIBLE, BEAUTIFUL BOOKS
This book should be by every woman’s bedside. It is dense and intense so probably not a sit and read cover to cover type. I reach chapters in chunks, sometimes even skip around looking for the story I need in that moment. I think I will read it that way for the rest of my life! It is INCREDIBLY MIND-BLOWINGLY EMPOWERING, especially when you need a pick me up, a return to self or a push up to the next level. Women are the most resilient and evolved creatures. If we only fully harnessed our full power, the world would be our’s. (Especially if Men read this book too…)
THE JAM: PUT ON REPEAT
fka twigs “don’t judge me”
I’ve always thought FKA Twigs was dynamic but especially in light of her escaping an abusive relationship with Shia Labeouf and coming forward with her story, I feel especially wow’d and empowered by her talent and her strength. The song is fire and the video is so emotive and reflective of the times.

DRIES VAN NOTEN FALL 2021 (6min)
ARTIST’S DATE: IN PERSON REALNESS
MARY QUANT: FASHION REVOLUTIONARY
I was thrilled to catch this exhibit out in bendigo. for a gal who loves the 60’s and 70’s it was essential history viewing. mary was a insatiable creative, a forward thinking business woman and an og feminist, so pretty much my dream woman. incredible how referential to her work fashion has continued to be and yet she is not REALLY a household name. i loved every mini skirt, pvc raincoat, and drank up every ounce of flower power!
STAGE/SCREEN: SO GOOD I DIDN’T FALL ASLEEP
SOME LIKE IT HOT
How good is it when you finally watch a classic film that stands up to its reputation?! This film was laugh out loud, a good old fashioned romp, fantastically acted by all in that perfect Old Hollywood style. And of course, Marilyn is a stand-out — I was completely enthralled, which only broke my heart more for what Hollywood did to such a brilliant woman.

PYRAMID SCHEME IN DREAMINGLESS
There is something very very cool about seeing your work in print. maybe coming from a live theatre background, where once the show is over, it disappears into the ether. while that is its own Kind of magic, i am loving the tangible creation of making pictures meant to be looked at for as long as you like. and holding them in your hand is just next level. i very much value non-tech things! click through, take a peek. i Hope you too like the spread.
UNTIL NEXT TIME, STAY SALTY!

INTERVIEW
Jacob mccart, manager at thorough bread & pastry
1. Describe yourself in three words.
quiet, patient and opinionated.
2. What is your passion job and what is your survival job?
my survival job is running a bakery. i'm pretty passionate about it, though. i don't think people should do things they don't enjoy doing. what i would love to support myself on, though, are my song-writing or carpentry. i think if i could do both of those things and have a career, that would be pretty amazing.
3. What’s your favorite piece to wear these days?
i just got a new parka from robert geller . it's huge and has so many details to it. it's such an amazing piece.
4. What are you reading?
i'm reading a lot of books right now. it's starting to be too much:
the wind-up bird chronicles by haruku marikami
vineland by thomas pynchon
normance by celine
5. What are you watching?
i'm being nostalgic and watching weird, obscure anime.
6.What are you listening to?
I'm currently trying to make a 3 hour playlist for my wedding so i'm listening to a lot.
7. What’s the best thing you’ve recently sipped or snacked on?
we just started this seasonal tart at my bakery -- it's pumpkin and permission. it's amazing.
8. What do you do to stay motivated?
i take it one day at at time. it's hard to worry about the little things. i try to realize that there is always something new and exciting to look forward to. thinking this way keeps me motivated.
9. Where do you seek inspiration?
i try to find inspiration in the quiet moments. the times in life where everything else around you seems to be asleep and you are the only one in the world.
10. What’s your favorite piece of advice you live by?
the best advice i was given was to always hold on to your beliefs. i think that's important and something i try to do on a daily basis.
until next time, stay salty.

miro

NOWNESS: MY PLACE — an editorial series from apartamento magazine.
Start with FLORENCE WELCH’S HOUSE
1. Describe yourself in three words.
Driven, Lucky, Sassy
2. What is your passion job and what is your survival job?
I think my passion job and survival job are the same. I have learned to passionately love hair dressing and it pays the bills.
3. What’s your favorite piece to wear these days?
My husband's denim jacket. I have always had trouble wearing denim jackets and I randomly put his on a couple months ago. And well, I haven't given it back.
4. What are you reading?
HA. That's not happening right now. I wish I had time to read. Or rather, I wish I made it a priority... I'm thinking about reading Amy Schumer's book before I leave on vacation.
5. What are you watching?
When I get time I sadly go more towards reality TV but I can't seem to watch anything other than Friends on Netflix.
6. What are you listening to?
I just got into the free Apple Music subscription and I'm listening to old classics like Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash to the Boss and Rod Stewart. I always stick around the same bands and go back to the classics.
7. What’s the best thing you’ve recently sipped or snacked on?
I'm pretty busy these days. Not a lot of cooking has gone down but I LOVE the Tostada salad from Blue Barn in SF. It's like a weekly meal.
8. What do you do to stay motivated?
Hmm. Motivation. I am very motivated to keep growing my business. I don't even think of it as an option. It's finally starting to "pay" off. All the things I have heard about setting goals. Sometimes even writing them down or saying them aloud to peers makes you get shit done.
9. Where do you seek inspiration?
I would say my parents. My mom was always an inspiration in how she raised myself and my brothers. We all turned out pretty darn good. She changed careers like three times and just was an overall badass. And my father is the man. He worked for the state but always was funny and creative.
10. What’s your favorite piece of advice you live by?
You should learn to be okay with being alone sometimes. Independence is so strong and freeing. You can grow to be confident around others through being by yourself. You learn who you truly are.
